IB PYP Students of Amity Global School Developing Games to Demonstrate Conceptual Understanding
Gurugram, 18 January 2021: The inquiry-based learning for primary year programme (PYP) students in Amity Global School (AGS) is developing creatively even as the online classes continue for the tenth month this year. Among other examples of effective knowledge, the learners of different grades have demonstrated their understanding of concepts through interesting games that can be played with friends and family.
As one of the best schools in Gurgaon, AGS assigns its students projects that require them to prove their learning in individual styles. One of these was about expressing organisational abilities which is a trans-disciplinary theme in the Unit of Inquiry for PYP students.
To show how people can organise themselves, a student from Grade 3B created a ‘Treasure Hunt Game’. It involves chits that contain clues in forms of signs and symbols. The players have to use the clues in the correct sequence to get to the ‘treasure’.
Another student of Grade 4 devised a two-player game based on mathematical concepts of fractions. She has named it ‘Crack the Whole’. By playing the game, children can practise the art of adding up fractions and learn how fractions can together make a whole number.
These are only two of the examples of how the students in this IB school gain knowledge in personalised ways. They may be studying in the regular school within brick and mortar classrooms, or at home through web conferencing tools, the children are making a steady progress with their course.
